➢ Use your VIA Strengths (measure them free by clicking here) to build energy and create momentum for how you be in the world. If you’re high on gratitutde for example, find innovative ways to use your gratitude, express your gratitude, be your gratitude. This will fuel your fire. ➢ Try not to let the pressure of time be against you. Time is highly paradoxical. It is not linear the way we have set it up to be. Love exactly where you are. After all, where else can you be? ➢ Remember the importance of clearing space to gain clarity and enlightenment - ending your...

"Working with Louis has been such and uplifting and enlightening experience for me.  I have always been addicted to writing endless to do lists, breaking them into SMART goals, and spending lots of time trying to determine where I was in this whole maze of tasks to achieve.  Usually I was able to check off a few tasks but never really felt any closer to an overall goal. Louis works gently and with great empathy to elicit the values, strengths, and life skills that can bring about a rapid shift in consciousness around setting and achieving goals.  I have realized that...

Ever since hearing President Obama’s state of the union address last week, I couldn’t help but thinking what I need to do: ask for President W and his supporters for forgiveness – forgiveness for my own lack of support during his presidency, for saying things like “He’s not my President, he’s yours.” For mocking him continually (which was easy because my friends were doing the same). But not all my friends – and certainly not many of my family members, including my parents, who have a framed photo of the man (albeit in their basement), which arrived after they made...

Can you believe Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” I’ve been thinking on this lately. Albert Einstein was a smart, smart man. But quotes of his like this make me see his intelligence in different, universal – perhaps even spiritual ways. I’ve been testing my ability to see everything as miracle and boy, does it take work. As a New Yorker, I’ve recently been doing this work in finding ways to enjoy winter. My tendency is...

I do! And I'm working at silencing him. Maybe you are too?  Let me tell you - the tools from my field, Positive Psychology, are scientifically proven to help combat that.  To make us more resilient! More happy! Don't you want that? I love how this guy (ill doctrine) talks about it in terms of CREATIVITY. Take a look, by clicking here....

[caption id="attachment_174" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Diva Angel"][/caption] Ahemmm . . . How are you? I am so super grateful: I write this as I head to two places: (1) to my high school alma mater, where I'm meeting with students to talk about the application of Positive Psychology in the band, a group I was a part of 15 years ago, when I was "one of them." I'm co-presenting at an international band director's conference in Chicago next month, alongside my high school band director, Curt, on how bands can flourish using Positive Psychology and Social-Emontional Leadership; this is our action research and (2)...

[caption id="attachment_166" align="alignright" width="300" caption="From hearing to seeing to speaking. Assume much?"][/caption] Aim: To become more mindful of everyday language, to create meaning. Point: What we know of positive psychology is that other people matter. <roll eyes here>. Certainly, these words have been overused so much so, they’re becoming empty. Other words we use are empty, too. For example, when someone asks, “How are you?” answers like “fine” and “good” do not have significant meaning. The argument can be made that the question has no meaning either. Challenge: To be as specific as you can be when someone asks you, “How are you?”....

Last week I had the great fortune of being with the Dalai Lama three days in two cities. The second of these visits brought me to Washington DC, where the Mind Life Institute presented an annual congress on learning called “Educating World Citizens” which brought together over 2,000 international voices. The Dalai Lama participated in all sessions over two days, which engaged western scientists concerned about the good life, particularly in regard to schooling (teaching/learning). Session topics included: Envisioning the World Citizen; Attention, Emotional Regulation, and Learning; Compassion and Empathy, and Future Directions and Policy. To sum, we discussed how to educate...

When I Let Go Of What I Am, I Become What I Might Be. ~Lao Tzu I was driving with my sister the other day and said something about the voices in my head getting in the way. “You have voices in your head?” she asked. “We all do,” I responded. * Are you a ‘should’er? * These voices are often related to belief systems which tell you what you SHOULD be doing - or even more simply, who you SHOULD be. A suggestion: Put these SHOULDs on a list and then once all there, cross out the should and replace...
