A month ago, when I took Ryder to the dog park for the first time ever, he was at first so shy and timid. (You would be too with all those big dogs.) Then, he would get a burst of courage to sprint around the dog park before always finding his way back right between my legs, clinging on as if to be back at “home base.” As he grows, he has more and more confidence and even I have to be mindful at reframing his sometimes “stubbornness” to his being “strong-willed.” (Gotta keep positive!) One of my teachers David Cooperrider taught...

MIT professor and author Otto Scharmer will be offering a free a six-week course called U.Lab: Transforming Business, Society, and Self. In it, we’ll learn how to create profound innovation in a time of disruptive change by leading from the emerging future. From the website: This highly experiential course is based on Theory U, a framework, method, and way of connecting to the more authentic aspects of our self. [caption id="attachment_1386" align="alignright" width="150"] A rainbow over Cleveland; photo taken in 2012[/caption] Three years ago, I moved here from New York, NY here on an intuition: there was no formal invitation, no job waiting for me and my NYC friends thought I was crazy. I thought I was coming here to start a positive (r)evolution, but I quickly realized something had already begun, which drew me to this place. I have been honored to join and build with you. And now I’m leaving but I promise — it’s not you it’s me. No, seriously: you guys rock. Our relationship has always been complicated,...

I will share with you an essay my brother, Todd (1971-1991) wrote as one of his personal statements for admittance to college in 1989. Todd was always attuned to environmental causes and even founded and named the club which still exists in our high school alma mater today, SOPE (Save Our Planet Earth). I love how he begins the essay with the Stevenson quote on love and ends with a call-to-action for SOcial-eMOtional leaders to "give a little more care" to the environment, our responsibility. He says, "These things can be measured only in terms of the satisfaction of living." Without...

From a participant in a learning lab at Northvale Public School (NJ). It was opening day for faculty and staff. What he had to say was very powerful and I enjoyed hearing about the five contributions that lead to happiness at work. Also, being able to kick it up a notch and taking it to the next level was very informative. I really enjoyed how he enabled us to change our mindset...
