Be! Longing lingers long and deep, Lodged in the depths of a full heart. Absence and presence blend into one, Anticipation becomes the spiritual fusion and vision. To know one, we must know the other Nothing exists apart from another We be-long to each other. Be! by Tony Carr + Louis Alloro...

SOMO Leadership Labs launched as a social-experiment in Cleveland, Ohio. It was a magical time of synchronicity, synergy, faith, and love. The work has been in inviting people into dialogue to think about how they think. This conversation is about their own wellbeing (mind/body/spirit) with the intention that they become more effective at facilitating this conversation with others. We’ve hosted SOMO learning labs in all sorts of places--in businesses, schools, community groups, peoples’ living rooms, public parks and bars. Our first lab was on Valentine’s Day 2011 and I remember the feeling of knowing Cleveland is where I need to be...

--and I know you do too. Came across this quote yesterday from John Updike: "Dreams come true; without that possibility nature would not incite us to have them." And of course, today being Martin Luther King, Jr. day -- and this year marking the 50th anniversary of that speech -- is meaningful to me. My dreams are full of meaning and purpose. They give me goose bumps when I think about them. And as Napoleon Hill reminds us in his Think and Grow Rich "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve." You know something that separates an Olympian from a non-Olympian? Vision. The ability to look...

“on earth´s part / all days start beautifully / patiently it revolves and revolves / with its trees / and oceans and lakes / deserts and volcanoes / the two of us and the rest of you / and all the animals” (Pétur Gunnarsson, Icelandic poet, seen in Reykjavik airport) [caption id="attachment_973" align="aligncenter" width="3264"] Photo shot in Reykjavik, Iceland at turn of New Year 2013[/caption]...

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love for your dream for the adventure of being alive. It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...

The field of positive psychology lost a great friend and contributor today: Dr. Chris Peterson (1950-2012). [caption id="attachment_934" align="alignleft" width="321"] RIP CP.And thank you.[/caption] You may know Dr. Peterson as the guy who researched the VIA: the character strengths inventory we use often in SOMO Leadership Labs. (We're also using his book in SOMO 300!) He put a lot of work into this tool, combing the world's many moral texts for a ubiquitous classification of strengths and virtues. I know him as Chris, one of my professors in grad school. What an amazing teacher: humorous, zestful (in his own way) and wise -...

How sweet it is to be in flow to have a sense that it's all working out. How easy it is to forget to fall asleep to what I know: That it's all a choice -- opportunity or threat How I perceive What I believe. How I feel What I feel When I feel If I feel I must feel. It's not in thinking. It's in the feeling behind that thinking The viscerality is sweet....

We all come here to this time and space (this life!) with layers of complication. In my experience, on the quest for happiness (meaning/purpose, engagement, well-being), it is possible to uncover parts of me that I never knew were there. I suppose this is consciousness. Consciousness leads to transformation. I must embrace the intricacies. I love the quest. I am curious. I am open. I am free. ...
